Frequently asked Questions - Concrete Driveways

Can I make my front garden a driveway?
Yes, you can convert your front garden into a paved driveway.

Adding a driveway can add 5% to 10% to the value of your property, depending on your area, although you will ned to consider if planning permission, conservation area rules and laws surrounding dropped kerbs need to be observed as this can add to the cost and time taken to make the conversion happen.

You can expect your decorative concrete driveway to last for between 25  and 50 years!

Provided it’s installed correctly by a reputable supplier and it is adequately maintained, decorative stamped concrete will last just as long as non-stamped, or standard, concrete.

If you intend to drive a vehicle over the footway off a highway you will need a dropped kerb. If you do not have dropped kerb, you must not drive over the footway. Driving over a kerb that is not dropped will mean you are breaking the law and enforcement action could be taken to stop you being able to do that. It is always best to check with your local authority and planning departments.

Prices for concrete are always changing so the best thing to do to get the most up-to-date cost is to work out the area you are covering by measuring the width of your driveway and the length in meters and then calculate the squared meterage with the calculation “width x length”.

You can then either fill in our form on the contact page or give us a call and we will give you a FREE no obligation quote for you to consider and come back to us if you want to go ahead – our team are friendly and will do all they can to help but don’t worry they won’t keep calling you if you are not interested, they are always far too busy!

In general, you can expect adding a new driveway to add between 5% to 10% value to your home, although this is not guaranteed, if the work you have done is compliant with local regulations and is to a high standard providing off-street parking to your property is usually seen as a good way to increase its value.

For concrete driveways, we use what is known as non-reinforced pavement standards of four inches thick is standard for passenger car driveways. For heavier vehicles, a thickness of five inches is recommended.

Usually, we recommend waiting between 7 and 10 days before parking your vehicle on your new concrete driveway. This is to ensure that the concrete has fully cured/dried and so this will also depend on weather conditions.

As with most surfaces, decorative concrete can be damaged by high-pressure washing. Applying sealant every 3-4 years will help to protect the surface and keep it looking great for many years to come.
